A swim spa is the middle ground between a spa pool and a in-ground concrete swimming pool. Swim spas are compact fitness pools with powerful currents for swimming in place. Some also have built-in spa seating for hydrotherapy. You get exercise and relaxation in one, year-round setup.

Quick Overview

  • A swim spa is a compact pool with a built-in current

  • You can swim in place, even in a small space

  • Dual Zone Spa Pools double as a heated spa for relaxation

  • Works well for fitness, recovery, and everyday use

  • Cheaper and easier to manage than a full-size in-ground concrete pool

How Does a Swim Spa Work?

An at-home swim spa, like our Best Seller - the Dual Zone Columbus Swim Spa - creates a steady water current. You swim against it in place. It is like a treadmill for swimming. You set the speed to match your pace and go as long as you want. You do not need a long lap pool to get a real swim in.

The current comes from powerful jets at one end of the spa. These jets push water toward you. You swim into that flow. The harder you set it, the more resistance you get. Beginners can start slow. Strong swimmers can crank it up.

When you are done swimming, you switch over to the spa side. That side has massage jets and heated water. You can soak sore muscles and relax after your workout.

What Types of Swim Spas are there?

Alpine Spas offer a great selection of Swim Spas in different sizes and with different amounts of jets. There are two groups of Swim Spas.

Single Zone Swim Spas

A single zone swim spa is one continuous body of water that combines a swimming current and spa jets in the same space. The entire unit is heated to one temperature, making it a streamlined, easy-to-manage option that suits people who want both fitness and relaxation without the need for separate areas.

Dual Zone Swim Spas

A dual zone swim spa is divided into two separate sections — one dedicated to swimming and one for hot spa relaxation. Each zone has its own temperature control, so you can swim in cooler water while someone else soaks in the heated spa side at the same time. It's the ideal setup for households that want the full pool and spa experience in one unit.

What Are the Benefits of a Swim Spa?

A swim spa ends up being one of those things you use more than you expect. It fits into your routine in different ways on different days. Here’s a look at the top 10 benefits of adding a swim spa to your at-home wellness setup.

1. Use It All Year

Heated water means you’re not waiting for summer. You can jump in even when it’s cold out, which makes it way more practical in Australia.

2. Swim Without a Full Pool

The current lets you swim in place, so you don’t need a long pool. You still get a proper workout, just in a smaller space.

3. Easier on Your Body

Water takes pressure off your joints. That makes it a good option for low-impact exercise or just moving without feeling stiff.

4. Helps You Recover

Warm water and jets can help loosen tight muscles after a workout or a long day. It’s simple, but you’ll feel the difference.

5. Relax and Move in One Spot

You can use it for exercise, then switch it off and sit back. No need for separate setups.

6. Fits More Backyards

It doesn’t take up as much room as a full pool, so it works in spaces where a pool wouldn’t.

7. Simple to Look After

There’s less water and less space to manage, which usually makes upkeep easier compared to in-ground concrete pools.

8. Great for the Whole Family

It’s not just for workouts. Kids can play in it, and it becomes an easy way to spend time together.

9. You Control the Intensity

You can adjust the current and temperature depending on how you want to use it. Some days you push harder, other days you keep it light.

10. Adds Value to Your Outdoor Space

It turns your backyard into something you actually use. Not just something that looks nice, but something you enjoy regularly.

Adding a Swim Spa to Your Backyard

A swim spa gives you a pool, a gym, and a spa all in one compact package. If you’re looking for something that fits your space and actually gets used, a swim spa is worth considering.
